Ever since the repeal of legislation making it illegal for prescription drugs to be advertised on television, drug costs and incorrect diagnosis numbers have soared in the United States.
In order to help lower drug costs over time, and to protect people from false diagnoses, the legislation should be re-introduced. Statistically, advertisement of prescription drugs has led to people inventing or ignoring symptoms because they believe they have a specific disorder mentioned in commercials, deliberately or not (for example, mistaking run-of-the-mill tiredness for fatigue). Drug companies have been increasing the cost of these prescription medications in response to the growing demand.
Most countries currently have such legislation, and lower drug costs because of it.
