The $100 dollar bill is the largest denomination of our U.S. paper currency currently printed today. However, larger denominations were printed in the past and the time has come to reissue the $500 and $1,000 dollar bills.
Up till July 1969, you could receive $500 or $1,000 dollar bills from banks. That year, President Nixon issued an executive order suspending distribution of high-value bills in an effort to combat organized crime.
With the rise in the prices of goods, inflation, and the increase in salaries of many Americans, the need to reissue these larger denominations has arose. Many Americans would find it easier to carry a single $500 or $1,000 dollar bill, rather than multiple $100 bills that could easily get lost.
