Passage of this years NDAA, which is on its way to the Senate after being passed by the House, would require women to register for Selective Service (the draft) upon their 18th birthday. Requiring the same responsibilities of women without guaranteeing them equality in every other aspect including unfettered right to bodily integrity is egregious. Before we can consider requiring women to register for the draft, we must have legislation in place that guarantees women equal rights via Constitutional Amendment (the ERA). Equal rights must come before equal responsibilities. I urge the Senate to vote against this requirement and I urge the President to veto it until the passage of the ERA.
