The current plans to dig one of the world's largest open-pit mines in the heart of the Bristol Bay ecosystem threatens the entire watershed with the potential to destroy the Alaskan Native communities, the salmon industry and more.
The mine will be huge, 2000 feet deep and two miles long and will include numerous large dams, some up to 50 stories high, to hold back the tens of billions of tons of toxic mining waste, 100 miles of roads and dredging Cook Inlet.
The site is just 125 miles north of the 1964 Alaskan quake, the largest earthquake in North American History.
Two of the largest companies are foreign owned, destroying a pristine ecosystem with profits going to other countries.
We urge you to deny all permits and stop this project. A worse place cannot be found to dig for gold.
