Reject the proposal to allow the Keystone XL pipeline be built through the United States.

The Keystone XL pipeline extension is, simply put, a bad idea for the United States. Any short-term benefits this pipeline may hold are vastly outweighed by the costs it will hold for our nation in the long-term.The process of extracting, shipping, and refining tar sands will severely tax the environment and economy of our nation. These processes require the burning of massive amounts of other fossil fuels and millions of gallons of fresh water, of which a mere fraction of the Earth’s water is composed of. Most of the jobs created by this project will disappear upon its completion. President Obama promised to put America on track to sustainable energy and so far has done very little in that regard. It is imperative to our economical and environmental health that this pipeline not be built.
