The use of the chained CPI as the basis of cost of living adjustments for Social Security and federal retirees will unfairly reduce the retirement incomes of the elderly. The use of the chained CPI is an opaque method of cutting retiree benefits and belies the Administration's pledge to keep our government transparent.
