The federal government is proposing that women wait until age 50 to begin breast cancer screening, despite data showing a steady increase in women younger than 40 being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Metastatic breast cancer in women younger than 40 has increased 320% from 1976-2009, according to a recent study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association.
According to Breastcancer.org, nearly 300,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. We simply cannot afford to delay screenings because insurance companies want to improve their bottom lines and save money.
That's why we’re advocating that women should have the right to begin screening for breast cancer at age 35 and consult with their doctor how regularly they should re-screen.
