reject the revised permit application for the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline

Created by T.R. on November 14, 2012

The current administration should reject the revised proposal to build a pipeline from Canada across the United States for the purposes of refining and then exporting dirty tarsands to China and elsewhere.

The Athabascan tarsands in Canada comprise the second largest pool of carbon in the world. According to NASA climate scientist James Hansen, if all that carbon is burned, it will be "game over" for the climate as we know it.

The people of Canada have effectively blocked the proposed Gateway Pipeline to Canada's west coast, negating the argument that the oil would just go somewhere else. We must not reverse what the administration has achieved with increased fuel efficiency standards. Rather we must move forward in the race to avert catastrophic climate change.
