In recent studies we have learned that 45% of people incarcerated in state and federal prisons are there for marijuana possession, sale, or growth. We have also learned that each prisoner costs us approximately $44,816 per year. For example if there were 1 million people in prison this year "and there are far more than that" 45 percent of those inmates would be 450,000. Multiply that by what a prisoner costs us each year and you have a total $20,167,200,000.00. Simply for marijuana related prisoners. Lets free those prisoners who are there for nothing more than marijuana. Which, by the way, is now medically legal in 18 states and legal for recreational use in 2 states and save that money on prisoner cost and pay down the national debt.
