Release Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from conservatorship

Created by H.T. on June 05, 2013

We plead to the Obama administration, bipartisan Congress, and the FHFA to release the two GSEs, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, from conservatorship to protect affordable housing and to restore our confidence in our government. Both GSEs facilitate liquidity in the mortgage industry and protect affordable housing but were taken into conservatorship by the FHFA during the 2008 recession. By now, they have become profitable and have paid back the majority of the funding received with Fannie Mae paying $95 of the $114 billion by June 2013. Ford, AIG, Citigroup, and other entities received funding and are able to operate freely, yet the above GSEs were unconstitutionally held in conservatorship indefinitely, which we believe to be detrimental to economic growth and housing recovery.
