Release Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac from conservatorship and back to the shareholders. Exercise the warrants that were issued to the federal government and let Fannie and Freddie go back to business. Nothing was wrong with the model until banks began packaging risky securities and Fannie & Freddie were pressured to buy the risky securities because the economy was in such a (false) boom.
