DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) is an organochlorine insecticide. It has been studied and proven not to cause cancer or other harm to Humans, it is extremely cheap and effective as a safe pest control product that could save millions of people around the world from insect bourne illnesses such as malaria. It was over used and abused due to its availability and low cost. Very small concentrations were needed for it to be effective, yet many overused it. A combination of overuse and poor run off water control led to its build up in the environment and caused some problems with a few species of wildlife. The EPA bought into sensationalist science in the 70's and decided to ban it. It should be studied and legalized for use in small quantities to be used responsibly to save lives.
