Jonathan Pollard was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987 for selling American secrets to the Israeli government. However, Pollard’s only crime was to pass along information regarding unfriendly Arab countries which threaten the security of the State of Israel and her citizens (including information on Iraqi chemical weapons, and Pakistani atomic weapons). Former assistant Secretary of Defense Lawrence Korb and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, among others worldwide, have all expressed the injustice of this sentence. We, the undersigned, call for the release of Mr. Pollard, who has expressed remorse for his actions and has been imprisoned for longer than many convicted Soviet and Chinese spies, and implore President Barack Obama to heed international requests for his release.
