During the May 2011 raid by US Navy SEALs in Abbottabad, Pakistan which killed Osama bin Laden, photos and video were taken by the SEALS of bin Laden's body. Following the raid, the Obama Department of Defense (DOD) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) provided this evidence to members of Congress. The American public has the right to see these images and footage under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Obama thus far has refused FOIA requests for the release on the basis that it would damage national security and/or could lead to violence against Americans. To allow Obama to withhold these images and footage simply because their disclosure may cause controversy is not a legitimate national security interest.
