Release a Statement on Equal Rights for US Citizens in US Territories

Created by A.T. on March 18, 2015

To commemorate the march at Selma, Jon Oliver looked at voting rights and US Citizenship in US territories. US Citizens in the territories are unable to vote for President. In addition, those in American Samoa are not given US citizenship, instead they’re “US Nationals.” Those who sign this petition believe that President Obama should release a statement proclaiming support for equal voting rights for US territories and US citizenship for Americans born in American Samoa. In addition, if the President supports this, we request that he formally request legislation be introduced to give these voting rights to US Citizens in our territories and to give US Citizenship to persons born in American Samoa.
