Remind the citizens of this nation that we are a Republic, not a Democracy

Created by D.K. on January 14, 2013

While many of us do not agree with this Administration's policies very often, and while it certainly doesn't hurt to let the White House know of our opinions, I (and the founders of this Republic, for that matter) do\did not want popular opinion to be the primary influence on public policy--especially complicated areas such as foreign policy.

If we were a Democracy we would be a schizophrenic one. A Republic is designed so that minorities (those, for example, who don't have the opportunity to make a petition to the White House) won't lose their rights. But a Republic also has democratic functions so that the majority can feel free to throw their representatives out of office every 2\4 years at their convenience.

Please remind the citizens of this nation that we are a Republic.
