The Controlled Substances Act incorrectly lists "marijuana" as a Schedule I drug, and provides a highly unscientific, incorrect description. Schedule I drugs have "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse". Marijuana is stated as being a "drug" that is "produced by the Cannabis sativa plant". THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is given as the "main ingredient that produces the psychoactive effect". Marijuana should be removed from the Controlled Substances Act due in part to the fact that pharmaceuticals produced and sold in the United States contain THC as a primary, active ingredient. Additionally, marijuana is not a drug produced by the Cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana is specifically Cannabis sativa, just as non-controlled hemp "stalks" are also Cannabis sativa.
