Arguably the greatest incentive for joining the military, educational benefits took a major hit last month when the Army placed a cap on the number of semester hours to be covered by Tuition Assistance. No soldier is authorized more than 16 credits per fiscal year under the new set of rules.
This is not only a low blow to thousands of soldiers who enlisted expecting to be sponsored as full-time students, but it is inefficient financially. Taking 16 credits per year for 8 years to graduate will likely be more expensive than taking 32 credits per year for 4 years would be. This rule breaks promises and wastes money.
Our proposition is to allow all students to spend their entire allotted dollar amount by removing the cap on credit hours.
