Criteria for Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act:
- High potential for abuse
- No accepted medical value
- Lack of safety for its use even under medical supervision
I'll start with Cannabis. Cannabis is currently misclassified as Schedule I despite it fitting NONE of the criteria. It has a low potential for abuse, a plethora of legitimate medical uses, and is safe to use even without medical supervision.
That brings me to the psychedelics, i.e. tryptamines & phenethylamines. They have a low potential for abuse, very promising medical value, and are safe to use with medical supervision, and they CAN be used safely without medical supervision.
Cocaine, methamphetamine, and phencyclidine (PCP) are all listed as Schedule II. This is wrong.
