Law enforcement shooting deaths involving African Americans have reached an epidemic level. It is very clear law enforcement officers in this country have a unspoken shoot first ask question later policy against our African American brethren. And until law enforcement officers can be trained, trusted and proven not to violate the civil rights and liberties of African Americans, I am proposing firearms be removed from all law enforcement officers. In exchange, they will be equipped with nothing more than batons. This proposal will not prevent police officers from choking Eric Gardner to death but at least African Americans will no longer be shot for raising their arms, for complying with police orders, for trying to reach for their driver license and registration, etc.
