The US Mint will stop making pennies and as people trade-in pennies at banks, they will go to get melted and used for a better purpose. The halting of creation of these coins will in turn slow the mining of zinc and copper. This will restrict the size and effect of the open pit mines and underground mines. Upon this effect, many environmental issues regarding the “spheres” of the Earth will be affected in a positive manner. The pollutants put off by these mines are harming the atmosphere biosphere and hydrosphere. The lithosphere is also being effected by the amount of ground we are tearing up just to get these resources. A penny only worth one cent is not worth destroying the world over.
