Andrew Jackson, more than any other single person, epitomizes the atrocities committed against Native Americans. In violation of basic human rights, in violation of then existing Federal Law and in violation of a specific order of the U.S. Supreme Court, he ordered the removal of the Cherokees, Choctaws and other native peoples from their homelands and began what is known as the trail of tears.
While history cannot be rewritten we can stop honoring those that participated in such atrocities. Let’s replace Jackson with a native American hero, Crazy Horse would be a good choice, but no mater who replaces him, let us remove Jackson now.
