In 1831, the State of Georgia, backed by the US Congress and President Jackson, broke a long-standing treaty with the Cherokee Nation after gold was found on their territory. The case went to the US Supreme Court, where the justices ruled in favor of the Cherokees. However, President Jackson defied the court by doing nothing to enforce the ruling, leading to the infamous "Trail of Tears," where an entire culture was virtually wiped out.
Andrew Jackson's portrait on the $20 bill is a disgrace to all Americans, and should be removed.
