Our currency is a symbol of American Democracy. Why, then, would we include a person on our currency who does not fit the ideals of this nation?
Andrew Jackson was such a person. He signed into law the Indian Removal Act, and devoted much of his presidency to carrying out the systematic removal of many Indigenous Peoples. These tribes were forced to comply with the Indian Removal Act thorough coercion and empty treaties. When they did comply, they were forced to walk in the freezing cold without adequate rations. Most died.
We do not want a man who could champion such atrocities to represent our nation. That is why I petition the administration to remove Andrew Jackson from the twenty-dollar bill, in favor of an individual who more fully embodies our nation's values.
