There are currently no women on any of the US paper or coin currencies. Andrew Jackson, through his policies towards indigenous tribes, is essentially responsible for the federal genocide against native peoples. Jeanette Rankin, as the first woman elected to Congress and the only person to have voted against entry into both World Wars, is far more worthy to grace the bill than Jackson. The US Government should recognize the important contributions of women by adding Rankin to the currency. Further, removing Jackson from the 20 dollar bill, one of the most commonly used bills in US Currency, would remove an affront to the indigenous peoples of the US and stop celebrating our violent and deadly past policies towards the indigenous tribes.
