In 1986, under President Ronald Reagan, and in the wake of the attemped murder of the President and wounding of Press Secretary Brady, the ATF enacted a freeze on the manufacture of automatic weapons in the United States. This ban has had no effect on the rate of crime, denies law abiding citizens the right to own weapons of their choice, and places a restriction on the free market of gun building that is in direct violation of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. We petition to remove this ban and allow law abiding citizens, who can already purchase automatic weapons, to purchase newly produced automatic weapons. In addition, modifications to weapons to make them automatic, as well as all tools used to do so, must also be made legal.
