Autism Speaks is one of the most well-known autism-related charities in the U.S.A. Unfortunately their tactics include comparing autism to diseases such as AIDS and cancer, depicting autistic people as burdens on their families and society, and anti-vaccination on the false pretense that vaccines cause autism.
Less than 4% of their funds go towards family services. Most of their funds go towards researching a cause.
Autism, like left-handedness, is not a disease. We cannot stop being autistic any more than some can stop being left-handed, and we don't want to rewire our brains to be 'normal.' We do not need a cure, we need resources to help us cope.
Autism Speaks is responsible for spreading an image of autism which is inaccurate and hurtful. Please revoke their nonprofit status.
