The CFAA or the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is a series of laws that are broken, broad, and loosely defined especially in a court setting. This set of laws was designed back before the Internet, but now, when everything and anything is on the Internet, it seems that this laws says that if you ping my server wrong I can put you in jail for 20+ years. There is a flaw in that and it is not just. In the world of computers, it is not laws that abide everything, but it is the code. If the code is written wrong it is not the user's fault. It is the programmer's fault. So why are we prosecuting the user when it is not their fault that a hole was left in the code? It should not be laws that protect a server, it should be its code.
