Despite what the President and his defenders have claimed, the chained-CPI is indeed a benefits cut, and it is a cut to one of the most crucial benefits that our nation's elderly depend on for their very survival.
It's already a well-known fact that many elderly are close to or below the poverty line.
More than that, there are numerous other, far more effective ways to combat the deficit. A few are detailed on this website (http://blog.ourfuture.org/20121218/nine-chained-cpi-alternatives-that-ar...).
Any of these proposals would be far preferable to attacking Social Security. It was war mongering that caused the deficit and bankers who have destroyed the economy. The war mongers and the bankers should be the ones to pay the bill, not the American people.
