Since Christopher Columbus never even stepped foot in the United States of America, it seems ludicrous to have a National holiday for him. Why not make a holiday instead for the man most responsible to get the financing and support from Europe for our revolution.
He also was the primary engineer of the peace process and the most eloquent speaker to the Constitutional Convention who promoted the compromise that allowed this country to exist.
His words would be good for Congress to consider-"When a broad table is to be made, and the edges of planks do not fit, the artist takes a little from both, and makes a good joint. In like manner here, both sides must part with some of their demands."
