Currently, when a couple files for permanent residency based on marriage, permanent residency can only be granted on a conditional basis unless the couple has been married at least for two years. In filing for permanent residency, the couple has already been forced to prove that the marriage is legitimate and paid a significant amount of the money in the process (a minimum of $1600, even if they file without a lawyer)
Not only does the application to have the conditional status create an additional cost ($590) in filing the i-751, but even worse, it demeans the couple by requiring that they once again prove that they are legitimately married when this has already been done. Please remove this additional onerous and dehumanizing requirement.
