When ethanol was suggested as a fuel additive it's original goal was to help hold down the cost of gas and lessen the demand on foreign oil. The cost of fuel is still very high for the average consumer. The demand for foreign oil is still there as well. As a side effect of the policy of corn based ethanol in gas, corn prices have gone up and up. This increased not only food prices at the store but feed prices at the feed mill for farmers, increasing the cost of other food like beef ,chicken, pork. There are also effects on small engines as well which aren't good . problems with engines self destructing as a side effect of using this ethanol blended gasoline. This policy has failed it is time to end it.
