Figures from the Williams Institute declare that trans people are twice as likely as to serve in our armed services than non-trans peole, that there are currently 15,500 active duty trans soldiers and up to 134,300 trans veterans.
Many employers and state agencies require veterans to submit their DD-214 when applying for work or social benefits. Veterans that have served honorably, should have a DD-214 free of derogatory statements. Section 28 of my DD-214, for example, contains the statement, "Conditions That Interfere With Military Service - Not Disability - Mental Disorders".
Please help our trans veterans regain their lost dignity by directing the Department of Defense to remove derogatory statements from trans veterans' discharge forms.
