The Solomon Amendment added Section 12 (f) to the Military Selective Service Act in September 1982 requires males aged between 18-26 to register for selective service to qualify for federal financial aid, including student loans.
This policy is based on antiquated, gender discriminatory ideas that does not provide "equal protection" to all citizens--both male and female--and access to affordable education that is contradictory to the spirit of the 14th amendment.
It hurts future innovation as students who may have qualified for federal assistance for education who were unaware of this policy until after their 26th birthdays (because of possibly not enrolling in a higher-education institution until this time) are hindered from pursuing higher education.
