According to USA Today online, "One in every 400 students applying for federal financial aid for college is rejected because of a drug conviction, an analysis of Department of Education numbers by a drug policy overhaul group found." In a Rasmussen poll conducted at the end of 2012, only 7% of American adults believed that we were winning the drug war. One of the worst policies brought on by the drug war was that which denies those with drug convictions federal financial aid, which denies people who want to overcome addiction and rehabilitate their lives through obtaining a better education a chance to do so. It is time to remove the drug conviction restrictions from federal student aid programs.
