During the United States presidential election, 1876, Republican nominee Rutherford B. Hayes won a against Democratic nominee Samuel J. Tilden. Hayes had 185 Electoral votes while Tilden had one less than Hayes, but Tilden had a larger popular vote of 4,284,020 votes with Hayes at 4,036,572. The majority of the people prefered Tilden over Hayes but Hayes won due to the Electoral College. Again in 1888 Benjamin Harrison beat Grover Cleaveland, but Cleaveland had a higher popular vote. In 2000, Republican George W. Bush won the Electoral Vote but Democrat Al Gore had a larger Popular vote. Remove the Electoral College, it hasn't happened much but it could happen again. What's so bad about having our President elected by popular vote over the electoral college? Please sign this petition.
