While the Electoral College was a compromise to protect less populated states from more populous free states in the early years of the republic, it has since become something that now only serves to keep voters silent.
To get across the gravity of this matter, let's look at the recent election data in Texas, California, Florida, and New York.
If you were to count up the votes in these states that went to the loser of each state, you would end up with a mind-boggling 14.29 million votes that were ultimately inconsequential (before counting the third party candidates), which is over 11.8 percent of the overall popular vote.
I propose that the Obama administration take up this challenge by ensuring that, beginning with the 2016 presidential election, every American voice will count.
