The FAA restricts commercial use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for commercial use. This restriction on unmanned aircraft systems includes remote controlled model airplanes, helicopters and drones. Recent advances in technology now allow these model aircraft to capture film and photographs. This content could be used by entrepreneurs, news agencies and journalists. Restricting the commercial use of this content limits potential jobs in the field, suppresses the ability to capture and share information and restricts journalists and other news outlets from exercising their first amendment rights. Reasonable guidelines for the commercial use of UASs need to be put in place and the ban needs to be lifted.
