Firstly, the "In god We Trust" motto is illegal, because it violates the United States Constitution, which prohibits the government from passing any law respecting the establishment of religion. US was founded as a secular nation.
Secondly, it is simply unfair and dishonest to assert that "we" trust in god, given the growing numbers of religiously unaffiliated Americans (22.8% from 16.1% in 2007), which include many atheists and agnostics:
