America was founded on the idea of "separation of church and state." In the country's beginning it remained that way until 1954 when "...under God..." was put into the pledge. Then in 1956 "In God We Trust" turned into the country's motto. These two things our founding fathers did not put into the pledge or as our motto for a reason. It shows favoritism towards one religious sect over the rest. President Adams said in The Treaty of Tripoli, “The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” (1797)
