The phrase "In God We Trust" on US currency & the inscriptions in the House and Senate chambers are a violation of the spirit of the constitutional separation of Church and State. The phrase is an impertinent presumption of religious faith that many US citizens do not share. Nor does the phrase allow for an understanding of which God is being entrusted, potentially discomfiting minority religious beliefs. It is not the role of government to promote any form of religious belief; only to protect the rights of religious believers and dissenters alike. The phrase should be removed and the government should abstain from either promoting or inferring religious opinions.
