The motto “In God We Trust” endorses faith, which goes against the separation of church and state, and hence it is unconstitutional. According to the First Amendment, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
Having the motto on United States money violates the first amendment because it shows a preference for religions with a single deity such as: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Americans who practice Hinduism believe in multiple gods, while atheists do not believe in any god.The motto on money is a religious act. Removing the motto does not mean getting rid of religion, and it is not in any way anti religious. It is simply a way to remain neutral among the many faiths.
