As a result of the Jones Act (Cabbotage Law of 1920), the Puerto Rican economy has suffered the loss of more than 60billion dollars in unnecessary added costs for shipping goods since it's implemmentation. This amount alone would ensure there would be no public debt had there not been a Jones act in place.
Give Puerto Rico the ability it needs to run an effective shipping industry by eliminating the century old harmfull legislation that puts the island on its knees.
An island with these laws would see no opportunity for growth considering that almost everything needed has to be imported by sea making purchased goods cost twice as much.
An effective and efficient shipping industry is the solution to Puerto Rico's financial problems and eliminating the Jones act will jump-start it.
