Removing the income cap on payroll-taxes for Social Security and Medicare will ensure that these programs remain solvent for decades to come.
This will allow these programs to increase benefits paid to many Americans despite the reduction in population paying into these programs. These benefits have not kept up with inflation for a few decades and need to be increased accordingly and not just to above poverty level standards.
Currently, the majority of benefits paid to retirees and disabled individuals are not enough for either to live on properly. In many cases, their medical premiums and/or medically related co-pays use up a majority of their Social Security benefits, leaving them far below the poverty level for necessities such as food, toiletries, clothing, and shelter.
