Senior citizens, who have worked and paid into Social Security ( a 6% tax ), should not have to pay any tax on Social Security benefits. Any income above the Social Security benefit would be taxed at the normal rate. The Social Security benefit would be tax exempt. Seniors have increasing demands due to health care, family support (both parents and children), and loss of income from low or no interest on nest-egg savings. Removal of the tax on SS benefits would provide a stimulus to the economy.
