James Clapper has already lied directly to Congress regarding the activities of the NSA. He should not be involved in any review of programs that clearly serve his own agency interests.
We need an independent review with a mandate to curb abuses of the surveillance activities, rather than to excuse and justify them.
We also need a viable method of protecting whistleblowers, which will allow for true transparency, and prevent future abuses by the very officials who have failed to protect our rights to privacy.
