In recent months, we've had numerous heinous crimes committed, such as the Ft. Hood shooting, the murder of an 88 year old WW2 vet, and many others. Families of both must live with this. Once the culprit is brought to justice, they get a life sentence where they can mingle with their kind, have recreational time, get an education etc...all at the expense of us tax-payers. This is hardly a slap on the wrist for some of the crimes committed.
Obviously these people have no compassion, remorse, or respect for the lives of others, and show no fear for lax American punishment. IF they get a death sentence, they normally spend 30+ years on death row and end up dying of natural causes. If these people were quickly executed, people would be a little more hesitant in committing these crimes.
