This is a petition to support removing marijuana from the federal controlled substance act of 1972 which places marijuana in the category of schedule I controlled substances. This category states that substances within this category have a) no medical utility and b) a high potential for abuse.
These is no scientific research to support this categorization. Marijuana has been shown to have potential medical benefits. The controlled substances act inhibits research of marijuana. The potential for abuse has been, at least, grossly overstated.
