There is no reason for marijuana to be on the list of Schedule I controlled substances. Marijuana prohibition has failed. Studies have shown that the active ingredient, THC, has a positive impact on human health. Leaving marijuana on the list would also be detrimental to society as there are many non-violent drug offenders in prison that costs taxpayers a lot of money each year. There has not been a case of a person overdosing from marijuana and dying as well as marijuana being one of the least addictive substances on the controlled substances list. Criminalizing marijuana goes against the citizens rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
