Our nation deserves someone in her position that does not base a federal agency's stances and actions on belligerence and rhetoric. Leonhart's statements regarding the benefits and pitfalls of marijuana legalization are deplorable. Her most recent, that dogs are at risk of harm from marijuana, are myopic and conveniently omit the greater danger to canines posed by the DEA itself, by carrying out raids related to marijuana where the animals are frequently put down by the agents present. Our country is clearly reaching a tipping point, in light of supporting evidence that marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol and can, in fact, be beneficial. Our elected and appointed leaders should represent that view. The DEA needs to focus on drugs that actually kill and stop their fear mongering.
